About Álex

Álex Palou Montalbo was born on 1 April 1997 in Sant Antoni de Vilamajor (Barcelona).

He grew up in a family with no car tradition, and even though he was very young, he was very curious about any gadget with 4 wheels. It was his passion that, before his 5th birthday, he was given a secondhand ..

That day began his personal idyll with the world of the engine. He never tired of driving and there was no way to get him out of the old go-kart. He only thought of driving, not caring if it was cold, raining or turning night.

At 6 years old, and only one after having his first go-kart, he achieved the first title, that of the karting social championship where he started.

A year later, it debuted in the championship of Spain and, after a surprising season, managed to finish in third position.

At the age of only 8, he was proclaimed champion of Spain fry of karting 2005. That same season, also conquered the Champions Cup of karting in category cadet, against rivals greater than him, circumstance that confirmed his great projection.

He began a career of success that, since the age of 9, has led him to compete internationally, with endless trips by car, van, truck and plane, many solo occasions and renouncing to live a normal life for a child his age . The prize for such a sacrifice was four Spanish championships, one WSK Euroseries championship and one European runner-up, among many other successes.

Álex moved to live in the CAR of Sant Cugat thanks to a scholarship he received at the age of 14. In the center of high performance worked very hard from Monday to Friday, which added to the numerous weekends of races and test, forced him to be away from home during long seasons.

So much dedication returned to be rewarded in 2013, this time to receive one of the grants of the Bank of Santander for the Young Promises of the utomovilismo, in his case to the pilot with greater projection of Spanish karting. This allowed him to test in Fiorano (Italy), home of the Ferrari Drivers Academy, where he was able to fulfill one of his great dreams: drive a car of the mythical Italian team.

It was not the only dream that the Barcelona driver made that same year, as he had the opportunity to become the controls of a Dallara F312 Campos Racing, during a test that was invited by Adrián Campos Jr ..

 

It was the beginning of his relationship with the Campos Racing team, with which throughout the 2014 he competed in the EuroFormula Open as a member of the Young Pilots Program of the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, finishing third in the overall standings, adding 11 podiums and 3 wins.
